Altai Regional Drama Theater. V.M. Shukshina is the oldest theater in Altai, one of the largest theater groups in Western Siberia, celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2011. It was organized in 1921 in Barnaul by merging the best professional teams of the Altai province into the troupe of the first State Theater. On November 27, 1921, the State Theater opened its first theatrical season on the stage of the People’s House with the heroic drama “Trilbi”.
In 2006, a major overhaul of the theater building, built in 1979, was carried out.
Today the theater offers its audience performances based on the works of W. Shakespeare, A. S. Pushkin, A. N. Ostrovsky, A. Chekhov, M. Bulgakov and many other authors. Drama Theater is a regular participant and winner of major Russian theater festivals “Novo-Siberian Transit”, “Real Theater”, “Golden Mask”, “Kolyada-Plays”.
The Altai Regional Drama Theater actively cooperates with other theaters of the Siberian region, participating in exchange tours in Siberian cities: Kemerovo, Tomsk, Novokuznetsk, and Novosibirsk.
