The State Museum of the History of Literature, Art and Culture of Altai was founded on September 8, 1989 in Barnaul on the basis of literary and art collections of the Altai Regional Museum of Local History. Scientists and cultural figures from Altai, Russia, and Russian Diaspora contributed to the emergence of the museum. The State Museum of the History of Literature, Art and Culture of Altai in Barnaul was founded on September 8, 1989. The main activities of the museum are the history of literature, music, theater and cinema, visual arts and folk art of Altai. The museum fund has about 72,000 storage units, including the personal fund of the writer, director and actor V. M. Shukshin, the family fund of the artist, scientist, public figure N. K. Roerich, the writer's fund, born in Altai G. D. Grebenshchikov and other funds of cultural figures of Altai, thematic collections. The museum’s expositional complex consists of 12 thematic halls reflecting historical and cultural processes in the territory of Altai from Scythian times to the present day. The museum carries out a great educational activity aimed at expanding the cultural space in the Altai Territory, being one of the organizers of the popularization of achievements in the field of culture and art of Altai. The museum has three branches: EF Memorial Film Actress Museum. Savinova (p. Eltsovka Eltsovsky district, 2011), Memorial Museum of the poet R.I. Rozhdestvensky (v. Kosikha, Kosikhinsky District, 2012), Memorial Museum of the actor V. Zolotukhin (p. Rapid Istok, Bystroistok District, 2016).
