The history of the museum originates from 1975. The museum has eight exhibition halls. The materials of the first hall tell about the history of the railway in Russia. The second hall is devoted to the construction of the railway in Altai. The third hall tells about the participation of the Altai railway workers in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the Afghan and Chechen wars. Another small hall is decorated in the form of a peasant hut; It shows how the immigrants who came to Siberia for the construction of the railway lived. Hall "Pulse of Steel Highways" is dedicated to all the major farms of the Altai region. An interesting exhibit was installed in the hall of the Barnaul locomotive depot - a model of a section of the cabin of an L-1703 locomotive with an imitation of “fire in the furnace”. The multimedia hall is used to show films on the history of the railways of Russia and individual enterprises, as well as organizing exhibitions of applied arts of railway workers, photo exhibitions and so on. In the exposition hall there are ten models and models of railway equipment, for example, the current model of the railway, natural rolling stock - two locomotives: 9П and Л-0186, the layout of the old building of the railway station Barnaul.
