In Athens, trains run in three colors - red, green and white. The first one is called “Happy Train” and passes through the historic center of the city. Its route goes near the Acropolis, Plaka, the Temple of Zeus, Monastiraki Square, Zappeion, the Panathinaikos Stadium, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Hadrian's Arch, the New Acropolis Museum and other beautiful historical sites. The trip lasts about an hour, and during it you can just look at the city around, but you can also listen to the guide's story (it is in English and Greek). During the tour, the train stops for 10-15 minutes on Constitution Square, Monastiraki Square and opposite the New Acropolis Museum, and having a ticket, you can go to any of the stops to see what attracted you, and then take the next sightseeing train in two hours. In addition, all these stops are close to metro stations, and if the need arises, you can replay your travel plans at any time.
The white and green trains are called the Sunshine Express. They have two different routes. One of them, the Silver Ring, passes through the old city, moving towards Plaka, past the Russian and Anglican churches, the monument to Byron, the Byzantine church of St.. Katerina, Arches of Hadrian, statues of the famous Greek general Makrigiannis, circling Acropolis and Parthenon, past the Theater of Herodes Atticus, Areopagus, Pnyx Hill, the ancient Agora, Monastiraki Square, the Roman Market. The duration of this tour is about 40 minutes.
The second - “Golden Age Tour” is the largest along the route and duration: it is designed for 1 hour and 40 minutes. The tour includes a fully “Silver Ring”, as well as passing by the Constitution Square, where you can watch the changing of the guard near the Parliament building, past the Presidential Palace, the monument to Georgis Karaiskakis, Zappeiona. This tour only works from October to April and, as a rule, is arranged only for organized groups.
