The Church of St. George - located on Lykavittos or Lycabet, as locals call it, is a mountain in the center of the capital of Greece, in the city of Athens. Lykavittos height is about 300 meters above sea level. Lykavitos mountain became famous thanks to the Byzantine church located on it - St. George. This sanctuary was built in the XI-XII centuries, its appearance is closely connected with the establishment of a strong position of the powerful Byzantine Empire and the establishment of Christianity, which was the result of successful military campaigns against the Balkans of Emperor Basil II. Earlier, the Athenians St. George's Church was called the Church of the Holy Sidere. It is known that in 1930 the building was completely burned, but, as early as next 1931, the temple was completely restored.
