In the area of Athens - Plaka, not far from the monument to Lysikrat, in the shade of palm trees is an ancient temple - the Church of St. Catherine. It was built in the first half of the 11th century in traditional Byzantine style on the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to Artemis. The temple was badly damaged during the Greek Revolution in the 20s of the XIX century, but in 1839 it was restored. Today the temple is still active. In addition to the Byzantine paintings, in the temple there are some old icons, in addition, near the temple you can see the ancient Roman ruins.
