The Karakol lakes are one of the pearls of Altai. The rocky road that runs along the Elekmonar River through the picturesque mountain gorge allows you to drive an hour by motor transport with high traffic. Last 5-7 km. will have to climb the mountain along the path.
Lakes are located at a distance of 300-800 meters from each other and are connected together by streams. It takes only a couple of hours to climb from the bottom to the top of the lake. With an increase in height, the size of the lakes and the temperature of the water in them are getting smaller.
The water in the lakes is cold and clean, aquatic plants are practically absent in them, like fish. Only by climbing higher up it becomes clear why they have such a name, which means black in local language.
